Outreach
Joining with other area churches, we are building a new
home for the Full Holiness Apostolic Gospel Church in
Tamina. Hands Across the Highway joins churches from
The Woodlands in this Body-building mission. Pastors Ernest
and Edna Mills have worked with churches in The Woodlands
before in the construction of a new Soup Kitchen to serve
the hungry in this historic African-American community.
Tamina was established shortly after the Civil War as a
freed-slave town and continues to have many opportunities
for service and witness to Christ.
Building on Faith is a Habitat for Humanity
project in Conroe. Together with twelve other congregations,
we are helping to build affordable housing leading toward
home ownership for people who are moving out of poverty.
Habitat for Humanity requires that home recipients pay into
the construction with sweat equity, and they then purchase
the house at what Millard Fillmore calls a "biblical
interest-rate loan," that is, at 0%. Habitat homes are
built by volunteers
Ministry to public housing residents of Tamarac Pines
and Copperwood include various forms of support,
companionship, fellowship, and prayer. The Young of Hearts
and Youth groups help celebrate residents' birthdays. Men's
and Women's groups provide moral support and fellowship. The
Elders continue to keep all residents in prayer.
The Pregnancy Assistance Center North provides
free pregnancy tests, counseling, and pregnancy support
options to women, men and youth who experience unexpected
pregnancies. Members of the congregation volunteer at PACN,
and the Center also receives community service outreach
support for the church.
The Community Clinic provides free health care,
legal services, and counseling to those whose only
pre-condition is that they have no insurance. Staffed by six
volunteer physicians, the Clinic offers services otherwise
unavailable to the economically disadvantaged. Most of the
Clinic's clients work, but in jobs that do not provide
benefits.
Interfaith of The Woodlands' mission is to build a
more loving and caring community from early childhood
education to senior advocacy, from job training to direct
food assistance. Volunteers from the church work with the
Food Pantry, Worksource, Project S.O.F.T., and other
Interfaith projects.
