Loving
Neighbor
is the second greatest commandment, according to Jesus,
and it is like the first, Loving God. Who is our neighbor?
You, of course, young and old alike. And also those at the
margins of society who are least able to care for
themselves.
Loving neighbor means kindness, companionship,
encouragement, and release from spiritual and physical
suffering. It means treating each other with compassion, a
generosity of spirit, and as we would like to be treated
ourselves. It begins at the table where we gather weekly for
communion. We then meet for monthly potluck lunches where we
get to know each other and welcome guests.
Our caring ministries include Fellowship groups for all
ages, the Disciples Women's and Men's groups, Young of
Hearts for seniors, worship outreach to the Silverado
and Edenbrook retirement homes, and the specially-trained
laypersons who are certified as Stephen Ministers.
We engage local and global missions of the church through
direct service and monetary support for Interfaith of The
Woodlands, ministries to Tamarac Pines, construction of the
new church in Tamina, Disciples Regional and Global Missions
projects, and Week of Compassion.
Children and Youth take advantage of local and regional
service opportunities, such as the Humane Society, Hand Me
Up Shop, Food Pantry, and Group Workcamp's Week of Hope.
